The essential oil of Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don from Croatia has been fractionated into terpene and terpenoid fractions and analyzed using GC/MS. Fifty-two compounds were identified. The main hydrocarbons of the oil were α-pinene (10.2%), α-cedrene (9.6%) aromadendrene (4.4%), β-caryophyllene (4.2%), and limonene (3.8%), while the main oxygen-containing compounds were neryl acetate (11.5%), 2-methylcyclohexyl pentanoate (8.3%), 2-methylcyclohexyl octanoate (4.8%), and geranyl acetate (4.7%). The essential oil and its terpene and terpenoid fractions were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The screening of antimicrobial activity was conducted by a disc diffusion test and the minimum inhibitory concentration was determined against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The essential oil and its terpenoid fraction exhibited higher antimicrobial activity with respect to the terpene fraction. Senna occidentalis and S. hirsuta are mostly gathered from the wild for medicinal use and have a disagreeable odour when crushed. The volatile oils isolated from fresh fruits of S. occidentalis and S. hirsuta were subjected to gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and antimicrobial assays. GC and GC-MS analyses permitted the identification of 58 constituents. S. occidentalis oil was dominated by cyperene (10.8%), β-caryophyllene (10.4%), limonene (8.0%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.8%). The main components of S. hirsuta fruit oil were benzyl benzoate (24.7%), τ-cadinol (18.9%), 2,5-dimethoxy-p-cymene (14.6%) and β-caryophyllene (5.1%). S. occidentalis fruit oil exhibited better antimicrobial activity (MIC 78–312 μg/mL) against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus niger compared with S. hirsuta oil. The compositions and the activities of the fruit essential oils of S. occidentalis and S. hirsuta are reported for the first time.  相似文献

The essential oil obtained from Wedelia urticifolia growing in Hunan Province, China, was analyzed for the first time by capillary GC and GC-MS. A total of 67 constituents, representing 98.68% in essential oil were identified. The major constituents of the oil were: α-pinene (8.85%), limonene (6.38%), carvacrol (6.15%), caryophyllene (6.08%), spathulenol (5.49%), sabinene (5.36%), camphor (4.34%). Antimicrobial potential of oil against bacterial strains (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus), yeast strains (Hansenula anomala and Saccharomy cescerevisiae) and molds (Aspergillus niger, Chaetomium globosum, Mucor racemosus, and Monascus anka) was determined by disc diffusion method and broth micro dilution method, respectively. The oil exhibited promising antimicrobial effect as a diameter of zones of inhibition (16.8–24.9 mm). Minimum inhibitory concentration values of oil were ranged 62.5–1000 μg/mL.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study investigated the chemical compositions and antimicrobial activities of essential oil from Pterocarya stenoptera. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the dried leaves of P. stenoptera was analysed by GC–MS and 39 constituents accounting for the total 90.44% of the oil were identified. The main constituents were δ-cadinene (24.83%), caryophyllene oxide (9.10%), α-cadinol (7.48%) and β-elemene (6.24%). The antimicrobial activity of the oil was evaluated by disc diffusion and broth microdilution methods. The essential oil was found to show broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities against all the tested microorganisms. Bacillus subtilis was the most sensitive strain with the minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.23?mg/mL. The results suggested that the essential oil was a potential source of natural antimicrobials in food preservation and pharmaceutical industry.  相似文献

This study represents the first report on the chemical composition and biological activity of the essential oils from the leaves of Lindera nacusua (D. Don) Merr. Twenty-two compounds were identified and quantified, and the major components of the oil were Caryophyllene oxide (8.79%), Hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (6.83%), β-Selinene (5.02%), Neophytadiene (4.53%), Palmitic acid (4.42%), Phytol (4.36%), α-Copaene (3.89%), 4a,5,8,8a-β-Tetrahydro-2,4,5-trimethyl-1,4-naphthalindione (3.83%), α-Cadinol (3.17%), Bulnesol (2.65%) and 1,4-Dimethyl-7-(1-methylethyl) azulene (2.38%). The in vitro antibacterial activities of the essential oils were evaluated by the disc diffusion method. The inhibition zones against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans were 23.7 and 23 mm. So the essential oil of L. nacusua showed potent antibacterial activity and potential high selectivity against S. aureus and C. albicans.  相似文献

This study represents the first report on the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from the branches of Jacaranda cuspidifolia Mart. Thirty-three compounds were identified by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and the major constituents of the essential oil were Palmitic acid (31.36%), (Z) ? 9,17-Octadecadienal (12.06%), Ethyl palmitate (3.81%), Perhydrofarnesyl acetone (2.07%), γ-Maaliene (1.88%), and Cedro (1.42%) and 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid ethyl ester (1.42%). The in vitro antimicrobial activities of the essential oil were evaluated by the disc diffusion method, and the inhibition zones against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans were 7.10, 8.20 and 7.25 mm, respectively. The oil showed moderate activities against E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans with minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) values of 17.3 mg/mL, 12.9 mg/mL and 16.0 mg/mL, respectively.  相似文献

The essential oil and methanolic and aqueous extracts of Piper betle L. were assayed for their antimicrobial activity, mosquito larvicidal activity, antioxidant property and mushroom tyrosinase inhibition. The methanolic and aquaous extracts showed strong activity against the yeasts: C. albicans, and M. pachydermatis. The crude essential oil exhibited a broad‐spectrum strong antimicrobial activity against all test organisms. The strongest activity was observed against C. albicans, followed by S. aureus and M. pachydermatis. The chemical composition of the essential oil and its fractions was analyzed by GC/MS analysis. Eugenol (36.2%), chavibetol acetate (16.9%), 4‐allylphenyl acetate (9.4%) and 4‐allylphenol (7.2%) were the main components, comprising 69.7% of the oil. The fractionation of the essential oil gave two fractions. Fraction I was rich in eugenol (71.3%) and fraction II in eugenol (46.4%), chavibetol acetate (19.4%) and 4‐allylphenyl acetate (11.8%). The essential oil exhibited the mosquito larvicidal activity with 2 h and 24 h LD50 value of 86 and 48 ppm, respectively. The methanolic extract of P. betle showed larvicidal activity with 2 h and 24 h LD50 value of 153 and 125 ppm, respectively, whereas the aqueous extract showed slight active. The individual antioxidant assays such as DPPH scavenging activity, chelating effect of ferrous ions and reducing power have been used. P. betle showed remarkable antioxidant activity in DPPH and reducing power assays. The activity observed can be attributed to the presence of the phenolic compounds. The essential oil exhibited concentration‐dependent inhibition of mushroom tyrosinase, giving an IC50 value of 126 ppm. The fraction I showed a strong inhibition of tyrosinase activity, giving an IC50 value of 115 ppm. The presence of 4‐allylphenolic components in the essential oil may play an important role in the inhibition of tyrosinase. In conclusion, the results presented here show that Piper betle essential oil could be considered as a natural antimicrobial, mosquito larvicidal, antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition source.  相似文献

New substituted 5‐(pyridine‐3‐yl)‐1,3,4‐thiadiazoles, their sugar hydrazones and acyclic C‐nucleoside analogs as well as the corresponding thioglycoside derivatives were synthesized. The synthesized compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staph aureus, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans The obtained results indicated that most of tested compounds exhibited moderate to high antimicrobial activity while few compounds were found to exhibit little or no activity against the tested microorganisms.  相似文献

New thiazole derivatives were synthesized. The N‐substituted acyclic nucleoside analogs and the substituted glucosides were also prepared. The synthesized compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. The obtained results indicated that most of the tested compounds exhibited low to high moderate activities whereas few compounds were found to exhibit little or no activity against the tested microorganisms.  相似文献

The essential oils from leaves, twigs and trunk bark of Onychopetalum amazonicum R.E. Fr. (Annonaceae), obtained by hydrodistillation, were analysed by GC and GC–MS, and also were evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity. Forty-one compounds, which correspond to 75.0–92.2% of the oil components, were identified. Major compounds were sesquiterpenes, including (E)-caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, spathulenol, α-gurjunene, allo-aromadendrene and α-epi-cadinol. The oils were evaluated for antimicrobial activities against four bacteria strains and five pathogenic fungi. The oil of the trunk bark exhibited good activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, Escherichia coli ATCC 10538 and Kocuria rhizophila ATCC 9341, with a minimal inhibitory concentration of 62.5 μg/mL. The essential oil composition and the antimicrobial evaluation are reported for the first time for the genus Onychopetalum.  相似文献

Essential oils of Duguetia lanceolata barks, obtained at 2 (T2) and 4 h (T4), were identified by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. β-Elemene (12.7 and 14.9%), caryophyllene oxide (12.4 and 10.7%) and β-selinene (8.4 and 10.4%) were the most abundant components in T2 and T4, respectively. The essential oils inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. The essential oils were cytotoxic against brine shrimp. The extraction time influenced the chemical composition and biological activities of essential oils obtained from the barks of D. lanceolata.  相似文献

Two new series of N‐thiazolyl hydrazones ( 3a – h ) and indenopyrazolones ( 4a – h ) were synthesized by the reaction of various 2‐acyl‐(1H)‐indene‐1,3(2H)‐diones, thiosemicarbazide, and phenacyl bromide/substituted phenacyl bromides. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of these synthesized compounds was assayed against four bacteria, namely, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and two fungi, namely, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger, by employing serial dilution method. Ciprofloxacin and fluconazole were used as antibacterial and antifungal reference drugs, respectively. Results of antimicrobial assay showed that the tested compounds have broad range of activity. The compounds 3h and 4a against Calbicans displayed more potency than fluconazole whereas 3b and 3c against Bsubtilis showed activity comparable with ciprofloxacin. The synthesized indenopyrazolones ( 4a – h ) were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant activity by 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay using ascorbic acid as reference. Compound 4b exhibited the highest 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging with IC50 value 33.14 μg/mL. The observed results of antimicrobial activity were supported by molecular docking study performed to understand the binding interaction of hydrazones ( 3a – h ) and indenopyrazolones ( 4a – h ) with lanosterol 14α‐demethylase.  相似文献

Ferula gummosa Boiss. (Apiaceae) fruit volatile oil was analyzed by GC/MS. Seventy-three components (96.89%) were identified, and the major components were β-pinene (43.78%), α-pinene (27.27%), and myrcene (3.37%). The antimicrobial activity of the oil was tested on three strains of Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermis, and Bacillus subtilis), three strains of Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and two strains of fungi (Candida albicans and C. kefyr). The essential oil remarkably inhibited the growth of the tested microorganisms. The Perovskia artemisioides Boiss. essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation method of flowers growing wild in the north of Iran. The study led to the identification of 29 compositions by a combination of HP-5 GC–FID and GC–MS analytical techniques. The constituents were identified in P. artemisioides essential oil with 1,8-cineole (29.9%), camphor (29.5%) and α-pinene (7.8%) as main constituents as well as δ-3-carene (5.1%), camphene (3.3%) and β-pinene (2.7%). The oil was identified by a much larger amount of monoterpenes (87.7%) and sesquiterpenes (6.3%). The results of antimicrobial activity exhibit that the extracted essential oil has presented a high inhibiting activity against five microbial strains up to 18 mm. Also, the MIC and MBC results displayed that Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi were inhibited by P. artemisioides essential oil. Therefore, determination of essential oils in this research showed a relatively similar pattern to those published for the other species of Perovskia.  相似文献

An efficient and eco‐friendly method has been developed for the synthesis of selenadiazolo benzimidazoles by the condensation of N‐benzylbenzo[c][1,2,5]selenadiazole‐4,5‐diamine with various aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by xanthan sulfuric acid. All the synthesized compounds 5a , 5b , 5c , 5d , 5e , 5f , 5g , 5h , 5i , 5j were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against Gram‐positive bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pyogenes), and Gram‐negative bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Salmonella typhimurium) and antifungal against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus flavus (Fungi). Compound 5i emerged as the most interesting compound in this series exhibiting excellent antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

A series of methylenebis(phenyl-1,5-benzothiazepine)s 4 and methylenebis(benzofuryl-1,5-benzothiazepine)s 5 were prepared by the reaction of methylene-bis-chalcones 3 with 2-aminothiophenol for 4 and followed by the condensation with chloroacetone for 5. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by their IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS and elemental analyses. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. To elucidate the essential structural requirements for the antimicrobial activity, the preliminary structure-activity relationship has been described. Among the compounds tested, the dimeric compounds 4f, 4g, 5f and 5g were found to be most active against Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus sphaericus, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella aerogenes and Chromobacterium violaceum. Similarly these dimeric compounds showed potent antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus, Trichophyton rubrum, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. It is interesting to note that the dimeric compounds with substituents of heterocyclic ring at the 4th position of benzothiazepine system displayed notable antibacterial activity equal to that of streptomycin and penicillin. Further, the activity of all the dimeric compounds was compared with that of their monomeric compounds, and it is interesting to note that almost all the dimeric compounds showed enhanced activity than their monomeric compounds.  相似文献

The essential oil of fresh leaves from Agathis dammara (Lamb.) Rich was extracted using hydro-distillation, and GC-FID and GC–MS were used to analyse the essential oil. Nineteen compounds were identified, among which the major components were limonene (36.81%), β-bisabolene (33.43%) and β-myrcene (25.48%). In the antibacterial test, disc diffusion method and micro-well dilution assay proved that the essential oil had significant antibacterial activities. The inhibition zones against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 23.7 and 23 mm, respectively, which demonstrated that the inhibition effects were greater than positive control (10 μg/disc streptomycin). And the lowest MIC value of the essential oil was found against S. aureus (1.25 mg/mL) and Bacillus subtilis (1.25 mg/mL). This is the first report on the antibacterial activities of A. dammara essential oil.  相似文献

This study reports the chemical composition, antimicrobial activity and antioxidant properties of Psammogeton canescens essential oil (EO) and its main compounds. The EO was obtained from the aerial parts of P. canescens by hydrodistillation and analysed by using GC/MS. The main constituent was β-bisabolene (25%), followed by α-pinene (20%), apiole (15.34%), γ-terpinene (7.34%), p-cymene (5.35%), β-pinene (5.41%), camphene (5.12%), dill apiole (5%), myrcene (4.54%), colchicine (0.56), sylvestrene (0.56%), β-caryophyllene (0.45%), caryophyllene oxide (0.43%), (Z)-β-farnesene (0.32%), cembrene (0.21%), folic acid (0.21%), germacrene D (0.14) and β-sesquiphellandrene (0.13). β-Bisabolene exhibited strong antioxidant activity (14 ± 0.8 μg/mL). The EO of P. canescens was particularly active against Candida albicans and Escherichia coli, with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration values. In conclusion, these results support the use of the EO and its main compounds for their antioxidant properties and antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyse the composition of the essential oil (EO) of Lavandula coronopifolia from Morocco and to evaluate its in vitro antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria isolated from clinical infections. The antimicrobial activity was assessed by a broth micro-well dilution method using multiresistant clinical isolates of 11 pathogenic bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae, Klebsiella ornithinolytica, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Providencia rettgeri, Citrobacter freundii, Hafnia alvei, Salmonella spp., Acinetobacter baumannii and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The main compounds of the oil were carvacrol (48.9%), E-caryophyllene (10.8%) and caryophyllene oxide (7.7%). The oil showed activity against all tested strains with minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranging between 1% and 4%. For most of the strains, the MIC value was equivalent to the minimal bactericidal concentration value, indicating a clear bactericidal effect of L. coronopifolia EO.  相似文献

The volatile constituents of Annona squamosa L. bark were identified from the essential oil obtained by steam distillation and studied by GC/MS. Six major components were identified as 1H-Cycloprop(e)azulene (3.46%), germacrene D (11.44%), bisabolene (4.48%), caryophyllene oxide (29.38%), bisabolene epoxide (3.64%) and kaur-16-ene (19.13%). The oil was also screened for its antimicrobial activity, which exhibited a significant antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus.  相似文献
