This paper extends the concept of generalized polarization tensors (GPTs), which was previously defined for inclusions with homogeneous conductivities, to inhomogeneous conductivity inclusions. We begin by giving two slightly different but equivalent definitions of the GPTs for inhomogeneous inclusions. We then show that, as in the homogeneous case, the GPTs are the basic building blocks for the far-field expansion of the voltage in the presence of the conductivity inclusion. Relating the GPTs to the Neumann-to-Dirichlet (NtD) map, it follows that the full knowledge of the GPTs allows unique determination of the conductivity distribution. Furthermore, we show important properties of the the GPTs, such as symmetry and positivity, and derive bounds satisfied by their harmonic sums. We also compute the sensitivity of the GPTs with respect to changes in the conductivity distribution and propose an algorithm for reconstructing conductivity distributions from their GPTs. This provides a new strategy for solving the highly nonlinear and ill-posed inverse conductivity problem. We demonstrate the viability of the proposed algorithm by preforming a sensitivity analysis and giving some numerical examples.  相似文献

A general method is presented for the rigorous solution of Eshelby’s problem concerned with an arbitrary shaped inclusion embedded within one of two dissimilar elastic half-planes in plane elasticity. The bonding between the half-planes is considered to be imperfect with the assumption that the interface imperfections are uniform. Using analytic continuation, the basic boundary value problem is reduced to a set of two coupled nonhomogeneous first-order differential equations for two analytic functions defined in the lower half-plane which is free of the thermal inclusion. Using diagonalization, the two coupled differential equations are decoupled into two independent nonhomogeneous first-order differential equations for two newly defined analytic functions. The resulting closed-form solutions are given in terms of the constant imperfect interface parameters and the auxiliary function constructed from the conformal mapping which maps the exterior of the inclusion onto the exterior of the unit circle. The method is illustrated using several examples of an imperfect interface. In particular, when the same degree of imperfection is realized in both the normal and tangential directions between the two half-planes, a thermal inclusion of arbitrary shape in the upper half-plane does not cause any mean stress to develop in the lower half-plane. Alternatively, when the imperfect interface parameters are not equal, then a nonzero mean stress will be induced in the lower half-plane by the thermal inclusion of arbitrary shape in the upper half-plane. Detailed results are presented for the mean stress and the interfacial normal and shear stresses caused by a circular and elliptical thermal inclusion, respectively. Results from these calculations reveal that the imperfect bonding condition has a significant effect on the internal stress field induced within the inclusion as well as on the interfacial normal and shear stresses existing between the two half-planes especially when the inclusion is near the imperfect interface.  相似文献

We consider the Lamé system for an elastic medium consisting of an inclusion embedded in a homogeneous background medium. Based on the field expansion method and layer potential techniques, we rigorously derived the asymptotic expansion of the perturbed displacement field because of small perturbations in the interface of the inclusion. We extend these techniques to determine a relationship between traction‐displacement measurements and the shape of the object and derive an asymptotic expansion for the perturbation in the elastic moment tensors because of the presence of small changes in the interface of the inclusion. We re-examine the conclusion established earlier in the literature that in the presence of a homogeneously imperfect interface, the circular inhomogeneity is the only shape of inhomogeneity which can achieve a uniform internal strain field in an isotropic or anisotropic material subjected to anti-plane shear. We show that under certain conditions, it is indeed possible to design such non-circular inhomogeneities despite the limitation of a homogeneously imperfect interface. Our method proceeds by prescribing a uniform strain field inside a non-circular inhomogeneity via perturbations of the uniform strain field inside the analogous circular inhomogeneity and then subsequently identifying the corresponding (non-circular) shape via the use of a conformal mapping whose unknown coefficients are determined from a system of nonlinear equations. We illustrate our results with several examples. We note also that, for a given size of inhomogeneity, the minimum value of the interface parameter required to guarantee the desired uniform internal strain increases as the elastic constants of the inclusion approach those of the matrix. Finally, we discuss in detail the relationship between the curvature of the interface and the displacement jump across the interface in the design of such inhomogeneities.  相似文献

We prove that the inclusion of every closed exact Lagrangian with vanishing Maslov class in a cotangent bundle is a homotopy equivalence. We start by adapting an idea of Fukaya-Seidel-Smith to prove that such a Lagrangian is equivalent to the zero section in the Fukaya category with integral coefficients. We then study an extension of the Fukaya category in which Lagrangians equipped with local systems of arbitrary dimension are admitted as objects, and prove that this extension is generated, in the appropriate sense, by local systems over a cotangent fibre. Whenever the cotangent bundle is simply connected, this generation statement is used to prove that every closed exact Lagrangian of vanishing Maslov index is simply connected. Finally, we borrow ideas from coarse geometry to develop a Fukaya category associated to the universal cover, allowing us to prove the result in the general case.  相似文献

We consider the motion of the interface of a 3-D inviscid, incompressible, irrotational water wave, with air region above water region and surface tension zero. We prove that the motion of the interface of the water wave is not subject to Taylor instability, as long as the interface separates the whole 3-D space into two simply connected regions. We prove further the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the full 3-D water wave problem, locally in time, for any initial interface that separates the whole 3-D space into two simply connected regions.

In a separable Hilbert space we consider an evolution inclusion with a multivalued perturbation and evolution operators that are subdifferentials of a proper convex lower semicontinuous function depending on time. Along with the original inclusion, we consider a sequence of approximating evolution inclusions with the same perturbation and the evolution operators that are subdifferentials of the Moreau–Yosida regularizations of the original function. We show that the attainable set of the original inclusion, regarded as a multivalued function of time, is the uniform (in time) limit in the Hausdorff metric of the sequence of attainable sets of the approximating inclusions. We prove that for every natural number k there are simply connected topological four-manifolds which have at least k distinct smooth structures supporting Einstein metrics, and also have infinitely many distinct smooth structures not supporting Einstein metrics. Moreover, all these smooth structures become diffeomorphic to each other after connected sum with only one copy of the complex projective plane. In a separable Hilbert space we consider an evolution inclusion with a multivalued perturbation and the evolution operators that are the compositions of a linear operator and the subdifferentials of a time-dependent proper convex lower semicontinuous function. Alongside the initial inclusion, we consider a sequence of approximating evolution inclusions with the same perturbation and the evolution operators that are the compositions of the same linear operator and the subdifferentials of the Moreau–Yosida regularizations of the initial function. We demonstrate that the attainable set of the initial inclusion as a multivalued function of time is the time uniform limit of a sequence of the attainable sets of the approximating inclusions in the Hausdorff metric. We obtain similar results for evolution control systems of subdifferential type with mixed constraints on control. As application we consider an example of a control system with discontinuous nonlinearities containing some linear functions of the state variables of the system.  相似文献

Moduli spaces of pointed curves with some level structure are studied. We prove that for so-called geometric level structures, the levels encountered in the boundary are smooth if the ambient variety is smooth, and in some cases we can describe them explicitly. The smoothness implies that the moduli space of pointed curves (over any field) admits a smooth finite Galois cover. Finally, we prove that some of these moduli spaces are simply connected.  相似文献

We show that there are simply connected spin algebraic surfaces for which all complex structures in certain components of the moduli space admit more harmonic spinors than predicted by the index theorem (or Riemann--Roch). This article concerns the onset of linear instability in a simple model of solid combustion in a semi-infinite two-dimensional strip of width l . The free boundary problem that describes the model involves initial and boundary conditions, including a nonlinear kinetic condition at the interface. The linear problem governing perturbations to a basic solution is solved by the method of images with the reaction front perturbation satisfying an integro-differential equation. This equation is then solved using Laplace transforms. Finally, we perform a stability analysis for the model by studying the solution of the reaction front perturbation. The inclusion of initial conditions enables us to show the development of linear instability from arbitrary initial small disturbances.  相似文献

The paper examines the problem related to the axisymmetric interaction between an external circular crack and a centrally placed penny-shaped rigid inclusion located in the plane of the crack. The interface between the inclusion and the elastic medium exhibits a Mindlin-type imperfect bi-lateral contact. Analytical results presented in the paper illustrate the manner in which the lateral translational stiffness of the inclusion and the stress intensity factor at the boundary of the external circular crack are influenced by the inclusion/crack radii ratio.  相似文献

Within the framework of linearized theory, obliquely incident water wave scattering by an uneven ocean-bed in the form of a small bottom undulation in a two-layer fluid, where the upper layer has a thin ice-cover while the lower one has the undulation, is investigated here. In such a two-layer fluid, there exist two modes of time-harmonic waves—the one with lower wave number propagating just below the ice-cover and the one with higher wave number along the interface. An incident wave of a particular mode gets reflected and transmitted by the bottom undulations into waves of both the modes. Assuming irrotational motion, a perturbation technique is employed to solve the first-order corrections to the velocity potentials in the two-layer fluid by using Fourier transform appropriately and also to calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function representing the bottom undulation. For a sinusoidal bottom topography, these coefficients are depicted graphically against the wave number. It is observed that when the oblique wave is incident on the ice-cover surface, we always find energy transfer to the interface, but for interfacial oblique incident waves, there are parameter ranges for which no energy transfer to the ice-cover surface is possible.  相似文献
