Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) were used to examine four dithiol molecules, including 1,6-hexanedithiol, 1,9-nonanedithiol, 1,2-benzenedithiol, and 1,3-benzenedithiol, adsorbed on well-ordered Pt(111) electrodes in 0.1 M HClO(4). The open-circuit potential (OCP) of Pt(111) electrodes decreased substantially from 0.95 to 0.3 V (versus reversible hydrogen electrode) upon the adsorption of dithol molecules, which indicates that these adsorbates injected electrons into the Pt electrode. For all dithiol molecules, ordered adlattices of p(2 x 2) and (square root 3 x square root 3)R30 degrees were formed when the dosing concentration was lower than 150 microM and the potential of Pt(111) was more negative than 0.5 V. Raising the potential of Pt(111) from 0.1 to 0.4 V or more positive values could transform p(2 x 2) to (square root 3 x square root 3)R30 degrees before it turned disarray. The insensitivity of the structure of dithiol adlayers with their chemical structures was explained by upright molecular orientation with the formation of one Pt-S bond per dithiol molecule. This molecular orientation was independent of the coverage of dithiol molecules, as nucleation seeds produced at the beginning of adsorption were also constructed with p(2 x 2). The triangular-shaped STM molecular resolution suggested 3-fold binding of sulfur headgroup on Pt(111). All dithiols were adsorbed so strongly on Pt(111) electrodes that switching the potential negatively to the onset of hydrogen evolution in 0.1 M HClO(4) or water reduction in 1 M KOH could not displace dithiol admolecules.  相似文献

In-situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and infrared reflection-adsorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) have been used to examine the electrodeposition of gold onto Pt(111) electrodes modified with benzenethiol (BT) and benzene-1,2-dithiol (BDT) in 0.1 M HClO4 containing 10 microM HAuCl4. Both BT and BDT were attached to Pt(111) via one sulfur headgroup. STM and IRRAS results indicated that the other SH group of BDT was pendant in the electrolyte. Both BT and BDT formed (2 x 2) structures at the coverage of 0.25, and they were transformed into (square root(3) x square root(3))R30 degrees as the coverage was raised to 0.33. These two organic surface modifiers resulted in 3D and 2D gold islands at BT- and BDT-coated Pt(111) electrodes, respectively. The pendant SH group of BDT could interact specifically with gold adspecies to immobilize gold adatoms on the Pt(111) substrate, which yields a 2D growth of gold deposition. Molecular resolution STM revealed an ordered array of (6 x 2 square root(13)) after a full monolayer of gold was plated on the BDT/Pt(111) electrode. Since BDT was strongly adsorbed on Pt(111), gold adatoms only occupied free sites between BDT admolecules on Pt(111). This is supported by a stripping voltammetric analysis, which reveals no reductive desorption of BDT admolecules at a gold-deposited BDT/Pt(111) electrode. It seems that the BDT adlayer acted as the template for gold deposit on Pt(111). In contrast, a BT adlayer yielded 3D gold deposit on Pt(111). This study demonstrates unambiguously that organic surface modifiers could contribute greatly to the electrodeposition of metal adatoms.  相似文献

In-situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) coupled with cyclic voltammetry was used to examine the adsorption of carbon monoxide (CO) molecules on an ordered Au(111) electrode in 0.1 M HClO4. Molecular resolution STM revealed the formation of several commensurate CO adlattices, but the (9 x radical 3) structure eventually prevailed with time. The CO adlayer was completely electrooxidized to CO2 at 0.9 V versus RHE in CO-free 0.1 M HClO(4), as indicated by a broad and irreversible anodic peak which appeared at this potential in a positive potential sweep from 0.05 to 1.6 V. A maximal coverage of 0.3 was estimated for CO admolecules from the amount of charge involved in this feature. Real-time in-situ STM imaging allowed direct visualization of the adsorption process of CO on Au(111) at 0.1 V, showing the lifting of (radical 3 x 22) reconstruction of Au(111) and the formation of ordered CO adlattices. The (9 x radical 3) structure observed in CO-saturated perchloric acid has a coverage of 0.28, which is approximately equal to that determined from coulometry. Switching the potential from 0.1 to -0.1 V restored the reconstructed Au(111) with no change in the (9 x radical 3)-CO adlattice. However, the reconstructed Au(111) featured a pairwise corrugation pattern with two nearest pairs separated by 74 +/- 1 A, corresponding to a 14% increase from the ideal value of 65.6 A known for the ( radical 3 x 22) reconstruction. Molecular resolution STM further revealed that protrusions resulting from CO admolecules in the (9 x radical 3) structure exhibited distinctly different corrugation heights, suggesting that the CO molecules resided at different sites on Au(111). This ordered structure predominated in the potential range between 0.1 and 0.7 V; however, it was converted into new structures of (7 x radical 7) and ( radical 43 x 2 radical 13) on the unreconstructed Au(111) when the potential was held at 0.8 V for ca. 60 min. The coverage of CO adlayer decreased accordingly from 0.28 to 0.13 before it was completely removed from the Au(111) surface at more positive potentials.  相似文献

The adsorption of formaldehyde (HCHO) on Pt(111) and Pt(100) electrodes was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in 0.1 M HClO(4). The extent of HCHO adsorption at both Pt electrodes was evaluated by comparing the CVs, particularly for the hydrogen adsorption and desorption between 0.05 and 0.4 V, obtained in 0.1 M HClO(4) with and without HCHO. The adsorption of HCHO on these Pt electrodes was significant only when [HCHO] >/= 10 mM. Adsorbed organic intermediate species acted as poisons, blocking Pt surfaces and causing delays in the oxidation of HCHO. Compared to Pt(111), Pt(100) was more prone to poisoning, as indicated by a 200 mV positive shift of the onset of HCHO oxidation. However, Pt(100) exhibited an activity 3 times higher than that of Pt(111), as indicated by the difference in peak current density of HCHO oxidation. Molecular resolution STM revealed highly ordered structures of Pt(111)-( radical7 x radical7)R19.1 degrees and Pt(100)-( radical2 x radical2) in the potential region between 0.1 and 0.3 V. Voltammetric measurements further showed that the organic poisons produced by HCHO adsorption behaved differently from the intentionally dosed CO admolecules, which supports the assumption for the formation of HCO or COH adspecies, rather than CO, as the poison. On both Pt electrodes, HCHO oxidation commenced preferentially at step sites at the onset potential of this reaction, but it occurred uniformly at the peak potentials.  相似文献

Irreversibly adsorbed tellurium has been studied as a probe to quantify ordered domains in platinum electrodes. The surface redox process of adsorbed tellurium on the Pt(111) electrode and Pt(111) stepped surfaces takes place around 0.85 V in a well-defined peak. The behavior of this redox process on the Pt(111) vicinal surfaces indicates that the tellurium atoms involved in the redox process are only those deposited on the (111) terrace sites. Moreover, the corresponding charge density is proportional to the number of sites on (111) ordered domains (terraces) that are, at least, three atoms wide. Hence, this charge density can be used to measure the number of (111) terrace sites on any given platinum sample. Structural information about tellurium adsorption is obtained from atomic-resolution STM images for the Pt(111) and Pt(10, 10, 9) electrodes. A rectangular structure (2 x radical 3) and a compact hexagonal structure (11 x 8) were identified. However, the redox peak for adsorbed tellurium on (100) domains at 1.03 V overlaps with peaks arising from steps and (110) sites. Therefore, it cannot be used without problems for the determination of (100) sites on a platinum sample. On the (100) terraces, the surface structure of the adsorbed tellurium is c(2 x 2), as revealed by STM. Finally, tellurium irreversible adsorption has been used to estimate the number of (111) ordered domains terrace sites on different polycrystalline platinum samples, and the results are compared to those obtained with bismuth irreversible adsorption.  相似文献

Reaction of heteroleptic bis(phthalocyaninato) lanthanide compounds [(Pc)M{Pc(OC8H17)8}] [H2Pc=unsubstituted phthalocyanine; H2Pc(OC8H17)8 = 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(octyloxy)phthalocyanine] with monomeric complexes [(Pc)M(acac)] (Hacac=acetylacetone), both of which generated in situ, led to the isolation of heteroleptic phthalocyaninato-[2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(octyloxy)phthalocyaninato] lanthainde(III) triple-decker complexes [(Pc)M{Pc(OC8H17)8}] (M=Gd-Lu) (1-8) as the sole product. Heterodinuclear analogues [(Pc)Lu{Pc(OC8H17)8}M(Pc)] (M=Gd-Yb) (9-15) were obtained in a similar manner from the reaction of [(Pc)M{Pc(OC8H17)8}] (M=Gd-Yb) and [(Pc)Lu(acac)]. The molecular structures of the herterodinuclear compound [(Pc)Lu{Pc(OC8H17)8}Er(Pc)] (13) and its homodinuclear counterparts [(Pc)M{Pc(OC8H17)8}M(Pc)] (M=Er, Lu) (5, 8) have been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis; these structures exhibit a symmetrical molecular structure with one inner planar Pc(OC8H17)8 ligand and two outer domed Pc ligands. In addition to various spectroscopic analyses, the electrochemistry of these compounds has also been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods, revealing the gradually enhanced pi-pi interactions among the phthalocyanine rings in the triple-deckers along with the lanthanide contraction.  相似文献

We have addressed here electron transfer (ET) of Pyrococcus furiosus ferredoxin (PfFd, 7.5 kDa) in both homogeneous solution using edge plane graphite (EPG) electrodes and in the adsorbed state by electrochemistry on surface-modified single-crystal Au111 electrodes, This has been supported by surface microscopic structures of PfFd monolayers, as revealed by scanning tunneling microscopy under potential control (in situ STM). Direct ET between PfFd in phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.9, and EPG electrodes is observed in the presence of promoters. Neomycin gives rise to a pair of redox peaks with a formal potential of ca -430 mV (vs SCE), corresponding to [3Fe-4S]1+/0. The presence of an additional promoter, which can be propionic acid, alanine, or cysteine, induces a second pair of redox peaks at approximately -900 mV (vs SCE) arising from [3Fe-4S]0/1-. A robust neomycin-PfFd complex was detected by mass spectrometry. The results clearly favor an ET mechanism in which the promoting effect of small organic molecules is through formation of promoter-protein complexes. The interaction of PfFd with small organic molecules in homogeneous solution offers clues to confine the protein on the electrode surface modified by the same functional group monolayer and to address diffusionless direct electrochemistry, as well as surface microstructures of the protein monolayer. PfFd molecules were found to assemble on either mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) or cysteine-modified Au111 surfaces in stable monolayers or submonolayers. Highly ordered (2 radical 3 x 5)R30 degrees cluster structures with six MPA molecules in each cluster were found by in situ STM. Individual PfFd molecules on the MPA layer are well resolved by in situ STM. Under Ar protection reversible cyclic voltammograms were obtained on PfFd-MPA/Au111 and PfFd-cysteine/Au111 electrodes with redox potentials of -220 and -201 mV (vs SCE), respectively, corresponding to the [Fe3S4]1+/0 couple. These values are shifted positively by 200 mV relative to homogeneous solution due to interactions between the promoting layers and the protein molecules. Possible mechanisms for such interactions and their ET patterns are discussed.  相似文献

We describe adsorption and identification of the binding sites of [Ru(NH3)6]3+ (RuHex) molecules in a closely packed monolayer of a 13-base ss-DNA on Au(111) electrodes by electrochemical in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), cyclic voltammetry and interfacial capacitance data. In situ STM at single-molecule resolution shows that RuHex adsorbs only at the domain borders and near defects. Together with the electrochemical data that show a negative redox potential shift for RuHex adsorbed to DNA strands, this strongly suggests that RuHex binds only to the exposed phosphate groups in the DNA backbone.  相似文献

The adsorption of bis-3-sodiumsulfopropyldi-sulfide (SPS) on metal electrodes in chloride-containing media has been intensively studied to unveil its accelerating effect on Cu electrodeposition. Molecular resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging technique was used in this study to explore the adsorption and decomposition of SPS molecules concurring with the electrodeposition of copper on an ordered Pt(111) electrode in 0.1 M HClO(4) + 1 mM Cu(ClO(4))(2) + 1 mM KCl. Depending on the potential of Pt(111), SPS molecules could react, adsorb, and decompose at chloride-capped Cu films. A submonolayer of Cu adatoms classified as the underpotential deposition (UPD) layer at 0.4 V (vs Ag/AgCl) was completely displaced by SPS molecules, possibly occurring via RSSR (SPS) + Cl-Cu-Pt → RS(-)-Pt(+) + RS(-) (MPS) + Cu(2+) + Cl(-), where MPS is 3-mercaptopropanesulfonate. By contrast, at 0.2 V, where a full monolayer of Cu was presumed to be deposited, SPS molecules were adsorbed in local (4 × 4) structures at the lower ends of step ledges. Bulk Cu deposition driven by a small overpotential (η < 50 mV) proceeded slowly to yield an atomically smooth Cu deposit at the very beginning (<5 layers). On a bilayer Cu deposit, the chloride adlayer was still adsorbed to afford SPS admolecules arranged in a unique 1D striped phase. SPS molecules could decompose into MPS upon further Cu deposition, as a (2 × 2)-MPS structure was observed with prolonged in situ STM imaging. It was possible to visualize either SPS admolecules in the upper plane or chloride adlayer sitting underneath upon switching the imaging conditions. Overall, this study established a MPS molecular film adsorbed to the chloride adlayer sitting atop the Cu deposit.  相似文献

Oligonucleotides modified by a hexamethylene linker group adsorb on gold electrodes via Au-S bond formation. We have obtained novel data for adsorption of thiol-modified (HS) single-strand HS-10A and double-stranded HS-10AT oligonucleotides and for analogous thiol-free 10A (A = adenine) and 10T (T = thymine) nonspecifically adsorbed as reference molecules. Mercaptohexanol has served as a second reference molecule. The data are based on cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry, interfacial capacitance data, and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) directly in an aqueous buffer solution, with electrochemical potential control of both the sample electrode and the tip. All the data are based on single-crystal, atomically planar Au(111)-electrode surfaces. The high sensitivity of such surfaces provides accurate HS-10A and HS-10AT electrode coverages on the basis of the reductive desorption of the Au-S bond. The coverage is high and in keeping with dense monolayers of adsorbed HS-10A and HS-10AT in an upright or tilted orientation, with the oligonucleotide backbone repelled from the strongly negatively charged electrode surface. Adsorbed thiol-free 10A only gives a Au(111)-reconstruction peak, while 10T shows a subtle pattern involving pronounced voltammetric adsorption peaks indicative of both nonspecific adsorption via single thymine units and potential-dependent structural reorganization in the surface layer. In situ STM supports these findings at the molecular level. In situ STM of HS-10A discloses large, highly ordered domains at strongly negative sample potentials. Reversible domain formation and disordering could, moreover, be controlled by an electrochemical potential variation in the negative and positive directions, respectively. 10A and 10T did not form ordered adsorbate domains, substantiating that domain formation rests on adsorption of thiol-modified oligonucleotide adsorption in an upright or tilted orientation. The comprehensive, high-resolution information reported may hold prospects for single-molecule electronic conduction and molecular-scale mapping of oligonucleotide hybridization.  相似文献

A novel one-pot procedure starting from the corresponding M(acac)3 x nH2O, metal-free phthalocyanine H2Pc', and naphthalonitrile in the presence of DBU in n-octanol has been developed to prepare heteroleptic (naphthalocyaninato)(phthalocyaninato) rare earth double-decker complexes. A series of six sandwich compounds with different naphthalocyaninato ligands, phthalocyaninato ligands, and central rare earth metals, namely, Sm[Nc(tBu)4](Pc) [Nc(tBu)4 = 3(4),12(13),21(22),30(31)-tetra(tert-butyl)naphthalocyaninato; Pc = unsubstituted phthalocyaninato] (1), Sm(Nc)(Pc') [Pc' = Pc(OC5H11)4, Pc(OC8H17)8; Nc = 2,3-naphthalocyaninato; Pc(OC5H11)4 = 2(3),9(10),16(17),24(25)-tetrakis(3-pentyloxy)phthalocyaninato; Pc(OC8H17)8 = 2,3,9,10,16,17,24,25-octakis(octyloxy)phthalocyaninato] (2, 3), and M(Nc)[Pc(alpha-OC5H11)4] [M = Sm, Eu, Y; Pc(alpha-OC5H11)4 = 1,8,15,22-tetrakis(3-pentyloxy)phthalocyaninato] (4-6), have been isolated in good yields from this one-pot procedure demonstrating the generality of this synthetic pathway. In addition to spectroscopic analyses, the electrochemistry of these novel compounds has also been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods.  相似文献

Electrochemistry and in situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) were used to study the blocking and structural properties of Shiff base V-ape-V self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on the surface of Au(111) in perchloric acid solution. The complex-plane impedance plots for the SAM covered Au(111) electrodes, with the redox couple of Fe(CN)64–/3– present in solution, exhibit arc shapes, revealing that the electrochemical kinetics were controlled by the electron-transfer step. For bare Au(111), the electrode process was mass transport limited. The molecules adsorb on Au(111) with a flat-lying orientation and form a long-range well-defined adlayer. A new structure of was observed in the double-layer potential region. A structural model is proposed to interpret the molecular registry with Au(111) substrate.  相似文献

Supramolecular assembled layers of ferrocene-linked C(60) derivative (C(60)Fc) and various metal ions coordinated to octaethylporphyrin (MOEP) were formed on the surface of a Au(111) single-crystal electrode by immersing the Au substrate successively into a benzene solution containing MOEP and one containing C(60)Fc molecules. The MOEPs used were zinc(II) (ZnOEP), cobalt(II) (CoOEP), copper(II) (CuOEP), and iron(III) chloride (FeClOEP) of OEP (2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine). The molecules of C(60)Fc directly attached to the Au(111) electrode showed poorly defined electrochemical redox response, whereas a clear electrochemical redox reaction of the ferrocene group in the C(60)Fc molecule was observed at 0.78 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode on ZnOEP, CoOEP, and CuOEP adlayers, but not on the FeClOEP adlayer. Adlattices of the underlying layer and the top layer of C(60)Fc were determined by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy. Adlayer structures of MOEP were independent of the central metal ion; that is, MOEP molecules were arranged hexagonally with two different orientations. Highly ordered C(60)Fc arrays were formed with 1:1 composition on the ZnOEP-, CoOEP-, and CuOEP-modified Au(111) surface, whereas a disordered structure of C(60)Fc was found on the FeClOEP-modified Au(111) surface. The presence of Cl ligand was found to prevent the formation of supramolecularly assembled layers with C(60)Fc molecules, resulting in an ill-defined unclear electrochemical response of the Fc group. The well-defined electrochemical response of the Fc group in C(60)Fc was clearly due to the control of orientation of C(60)Fc molecules.  相似文献

Herein the structure of the interfacial layer between the air- and water-stable ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate ([EMIM]FAP) and Au(111) is investigated using in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), distance tunneling spectroscopy (DTS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. The in situ STM measurements reveal that structured interfacial layers can be probed in both cathodic and anodic regimes at the IL/Au(111) interface. The structure of these layers is dependent on the applied electrode potential, the number of subsequent STM scans and the scan rate. Furthermore, first DTS results show that the tunneling barrier during the 1st STM scan does not seem to change significantly in the cathodic potential regime between the ocp (-0.2 V) and -2.0 V.

Adlayers of cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(alpha,alpha,alpha,alpha-2-pivalamidophenyl)porphyrin (CoTpivPP) were prepared by immersing either Au(111) or Au(100) substrate in a benzene solution containing CoTpivPP molecules, and they were investigated in 0.1 M HClO4 and 0.1 M H2SO4 by cyclic voltammetry and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The adlayer structure and electrochemical properties of CoTpivPP are compared to those of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine cobalt(II) (CoTPP). Characteristic nanobelt arrays consisting of CoTpivPP molecules were produced on both Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces. The stability of the nanobelt arrays was controlled by manipulating the electrode potential. On the other hand, the formation of nanobelt arrays consisting of O2-adducted CoTpivPP molecules depended upon the crystallographic orientation of Au. The state of O2 trapped in the cavity of CoTpivPP was distinctly observed in STM images as a bright spot in the nanobelt array formed on reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) surface, but not on Au(111) surface. This result suggests that the arrangement of underlying Au atoms plays an important role in the formation of nanobelt arrays with the sixth ligand coordination.  相似文献

Recrystallization of the previously reported monosolvated bis(phthalocyaninato)niobium(IV), [Pc2Nb].CINP (CINP = 1-chloronaphthalene), has allowed isolation of a single crystal of a new solvated form, i.e. [Pc2Nb]. 3.5CINP, whose structure has been elucidated by X-ray work: space group P2(1)/n (No. 14); a = 16.765(3), b = 23.800(4), c = 19.421(4) A; alpha = gamma = 90 degrees, beta = 92.51(2) degrees; Z = 4. The sandwiched material is a "stapled" molecule, characterized by the presence of two intramolecular interligand C-C sigma bonds and highly strained phthalocyanine units, as formerly observed by crystallographic work for its Ti(IV) analogue, [Pc2Ti], and the +1 corresponding fragment, [Pc2Nb]+, present in the species [Pc2Nb](l3)(l2)0.5.3.5CINP. [Pc2Nb] appears to be reluctant to undergo further oxidation above the +1 oxidation state. Detailed theoretical studies by DFT and TDDFT methods have been developed on [Pc2Nb] and [Pc2Nb]+, also extended for comparison to the Ti(IV) complex [Pc2Ti], and an adequate picture of the ground-state electronic structure of these species has been achieved. Moreover, the excitation energies and oscillator strengths calculated for the closed-shell systems, [Pc2Ti] and [Pc2Nb]+, provide a satisfactory interpretation of their characteristic visible optical spectra and help to rationalize the similar features observed in the visible spectrum of the open-shell "stapled" complex, [Pc2Nb]. Thin solid films (100-250 nm) of [Pc2Nb] deposited on ITO (indium-doped tin oxide) show a reversible redox process in neutral or acidic aqueous electrolytes. The electrochemical and electrochromic properties of the sandwiched complex, combined with impedance and UV/visible spectral measurements, are presented and discussed. The achieved electrochemical information, while substantially in keeping with the observed chemical redox behavior and theoretical predictions, qualifies [Pc2Nb] as an "optically passive" electrode and a promising material for its use in electrochromic devices.  相似文献

In this work, ConA and CramoLL lectins were immobilized on gold nanoparticles (AuNp) with polyvinyl butyral (PVB), and adsorbed on the surface of gold (Au) electrodes. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), in the frequency range from 100mHz to 100KHz, and cyclic voltammetry (CV), from -0.2 to 0.7V, were performed on these electrodes, in phosphate buffer (PBS) solution containing 10mM K(3)[Fe(CN)(6)]/K(4)[Fe(CN)(6)] (1:1) mixture as a redox probe. EIS and CV measurements showed that redox probe reactions on the modified Au electrodes were partially blocked due to the adsorption of AuNp-ConA-PVB and AuNp-CramoLL-PVB. SEM images showed the presence of aggregates of AuNp-ConA on PVB spherules in a tridimensional structure on the surface of the Au electrode. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was adsorbed on the AuNp-Lectin-PVB modified electrode in order to block the remaining free gold sites. Both EIS and CV techniques yielded results that confirm positive responses of the lectins to ovalbumin agglutination. These results indicate an improvement of the sensitivity for detection of sugars that can be applicable to construction of a biosensor sensitive to glycoproteins in solution.
