An all-optical scheme for simultaneously realizing OR and AND logic gates based on three-input four-wave mixing (FWM) arising in a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed and demonstrated. It has the ability to process not only conventional non-return-to-zero-ON-OFF-keying (NRZ-OOK) and return-to-zero-OOK (RZ-OOK) formats but also carrier-suppressed return-to-zero-OOK (CSRZ-OOK) format signals. Firstly, the performance of 40 Gb/s logic operation is numerically evaluated by a comprehensive dynamic SOA model considering three input signal induced FWM effect. Then, 10 Gb/s experimental demonstrations with clear waveforms and high extinction ratios (ERs) further verify the logic integrity of this scheme. Thus, the OR and AND logic gates simultaneously achieved within a single logic unit is compact and cost-effective for future optical signal processing applications.  相似文献

We propose and numerically investigate a novel high-speed (40-Gb/s and above) optical frequency shift-keying (FSK) transmitter scheme. By optical carrier-suppressed modulation and differential phase-shift-keying (DPSK) to intensity modulation (IM) conversion, only one light source is needed in the proposed scheme to generate high-speed optical FSK signals. By using a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) as phase modulator and an additional delay interferometer (DI) cascaded after the carrier-suppressed MZM to suppress the remaining carrier, the performance of our scheme can compete with the double-light-source counterparts. The transmission performances of the FSK signal generated with the proposed scheme as well as detuning and bandwidth tolerance of the demodulation filter are also carefully investigated. Simulation results show that the proposed FSK generation scheme is very suitable for the next-generation optical access network and optical label switching network. A potential application of our scheme in high-speed passive optical network is proposed.  相似文献

Inverted return-to-zero (IRZ)-Manchester coding is proposed for optical downstream signal using amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation in an optical network unit (ONU)-source-free wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON), and ASK modulation is used for the optical upstream signal generation using remodulation over the optical downstream signal. With IRZ-Manchester coding, differential phase shift keying (DPSK) modulation can be overlaid on the downstream optical ASK signal for broadcasting services. Our experimental results show that the IRZ-Manchester coded optical ASK downstream signal has no modulation extinction ratio restrictions from the overlaid DPSK modulation, and that the remodulated optical upstream signal has very limited signal crosstalk from the downstream signals. In comparison with the conventional schemes using only Manchester coding or IRZ modulation, the proposed IRZ-Manchester coded modulation scheme shows better performance under different PON upstream and downstream traffic bit rate ratios.  相似文献

A novel radio-over-fiber (ROF) scheme simultaneously to modulate and transmit 10-Gb/s baseband and 60-GHz microwave signals on a single wavelength using single-sideband (SSB) modulation technique is proposed and verified by simulation. The scheme is based on a Dual-Parallel Mach-Zehnder Modulator (DPMZM). The scheme can carry the microwave signals on either the upper sideband (USB) or the lower sideband (LSB) only and the baseband signals on the other sideband. The optical 60-GHz millimeter wave (mm-wave) carrier is generated by means of subcarrier-multiplexing (SCM) technique to carry 155-Mb/s baseband signals while 10-Gb/s baseband signals are imposed on the original optical carrier via SSB modulation. The signals with dual services are successfully transmitted over 50-km single-mode fiber.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a new 4-bit/symbol optical data format based on simultaneously modulating dark return-to-zero (DRZ), differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) and polarization-shift-keying (PoISK) for 100Gbit/s applications. Through numerical simulation, we show the differential tolerance of the three dimension modulation format toward polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) and chromatic dispersion. The receiver sensitivities of three different combined modulation formats, with those of DRZ, DQPSK and PoISK, are compared respectively, while extinction ratio of DRZ is changed. The proposed three dimension orthogonal modulation format has a more compact spectrum and is more tolerant to phase noise compared with DQPSK for 100Gbit/s transmission.  相似文献

We have proposed and demonstrated a novel Mach-Zehnder modulation technique which employs a 1 × 4 multimode interference MMI coupler and four optical phase-modulator waveguides to generate optical single sideband (SSB) signals in radio-over-fiber (ROF) transmission link. It is shown that when the RF (radio frequency) modulation index is large, the optical SSB signal generated by conventional modulation scheme contains a significant part of undesired higher order harmonics, accordingly, much distortion in the RF signal was detected at the base station (BS). However, the main undesired higher order harmonics can be suppressed using our proposed modulation scheme and the performance of the transmission links were largely improved in single-channel and dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) cases.  相似文献

We measure full interferograms of telecom signals impaired by noise and investigate their applicability to in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring in practical systems. We experimentally establish that the dependence of overall shape of the interferogram on a signal's extinction ratio (ER) is strong but not unique. As the ER is being degraded the interferogram evolves in two distinct ways depending on the modulation conditions. The resulting ambiguity in the interferogram shape prevents OSNR measurements on completely unknown signals and necessitates a calibration for each modulator condition. With appropriate calibration, we experimentally demonstrate reliable OSNR measurements in the 5 to 25 dB range for 42.8 Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero, return-to-zero, and carrier-suppressed return-to-zero on-off-keyed signals.  相似文献

建立了基于一种新型光放大器(线性光放大器)的交叉增益调制波长转换理论模型.对交叉增益调制波长转换器同向工作方式下的输出消光比进行了分析,讨论了抽运光和探测光的波长和功率等参量对转换后信号消光比特性的影响.结果表明:随着抽运光波长的增加,波长转换器的输出消光比逐渐增大,但对于探测光波长的增加,消光比反而减小;增加抽运光功率和减小探测光功率都可以获得较大的消光比;波长向下转换时的消光比明显优于向上转换时的消光比.  相似文献

A novel and simple method to achieve wavelength shift keying (WSK) modulation is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed WSK transmitter consists of a pair of Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs) that are biased appropriately to achieve complementary operation. When a non-return-to-zero data stream is applied to the two MZMs, thanks to the complementary operation of the MZMs, the WSK-modulated signal can be obtained by combining the two intensity-modulated optical signals. A tunable optical delay line (ODL) is applied to achieve synchronization between the two optical signals. The ODL can also be used to compensate for the dispersion-induced walk-off effect between the two optical carriers. The application of the proposed WSK transmitter in a passive optical network is demonstrated, in which the downstream WSK signal is reused as optical carrier for upstream intensity-modulated data transmission. The proposed approach is experimentally realized; experimental results verify the feasibility of the approach.  相似文献

Image compressors improve the handling of image data in image-processing systems. In our proposed image-compression system, we employ a smart complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor and an integrated spatial light modulator (SLM) and then the optoelectronic architecture performs a large part of image-compression processes. Each pixel of the integrated SLM consists of multiple modulation pads; the integrated SLM then performs decoding and optical D/A conversion. A paired configuration of the smart CMOS sensor and the integrated SLM transforms optical analog signals into electronic digital signals. A theoretical analysis showed that the error ratio of the proposed systems was 3%.  相似文献

本文提出了一种新型的多波长全光再生方案,利用相位时钟光纤光参量放大,并采用相邻信道偏振正交的方法,实现对由异步信源产生的双波长信号全光再生.理论分析了参量放大中的增益饱和现象用于幅度噪声抑制,以及利用相位时钟及后续色散实现对信号定时的机理.在这个基础上,对两个独立信源产生的异步双波长10Gbit/s信号进行再生实验,实验表明该方案有效的抑制了基于多波长3R再生系统中信道间的四波混频与交叉相位调制等非线性干扰.系统在单波长和双波长情况下分别将两路信号信噪比改善了至少6.5dB与4.5dB.误码率测试结果说明,与背对背测试结果相比,无论是在单波长还是双波长条件下,两路波长的信号经过再生后都实现了约2dB的接收机功率代价的改善.  相似文献

Digital radio communications uses nowadays different modulation schemes with high data rate possibilities. Designing a multi-standard linearized transmitter is an interesting goal for which OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) modulation is the worst case at the moment. Transmission of multi-carrier signals like OFDM ones are subject to high dynamic variation, quantified by the PAPR (Peak to Average Power Ratio) signal property. Nonlinearities occurring at the power amplification part implies the transmitter to be linearized for preserving the information integrity. This paper presents a new multi-standard linearized RF transmitter architecture based on both EER and LINC techniques. The goal is to cancel the influence of the high PAPR of an OFDM signal as soon as possible in the different steps of the transmitter. In order to maintain the overall efficiency, the use of switched PAs is promoted, which is possible thanks to the constant (envelope) power property occurring by the proposed EER–LINC method. New circuit designs are necessary, and comparison with classical EER and LINC solutions is discussed.  相似文献

A 100-Gb/s high-speed optical transmitter is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Based on frequency-quadrupling technique, two sub-channels with a fixed 50-GHz spacing are obtained from one laser source. Using return-to-zero differential quadrature phase-shift keying (RZ-DQPSK) modulation format and polarization multiplexing (PolMux), only low-speed electronic devices of 12.5 GHz are needed for the 100-Gb/s transmitter. This eliminates the need of ultrahigh-speed optoelectronic devices and thus greatly reduces the cost. The experimental results show that this transmitter can achieve good performance in dispersion tolerance of a 25-km single mode fiber (SMF).  相似文献

In this investigation, we propose and investigate the simple self-injection locked Fabry-Perot laser diodes (FP-LDs) in optical line terminal (OLT); and wavelength-tunable optical network unit (ONU) using reflective optical semiconductor amplifier (RSOA) and FP-LD laser for downstream and upstream traffic in long reach (LR) wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network (WDM-PON) respectively. The output performance of the proposed two laser sources in terms of power and side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) has been discussed. Here, for the downstream traffic, the proposed optical transmitter can be directly modulated at 2.5 Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) format with nearly 0.4 dB power penalty at bit error rate (BER) of 10−9 through 75 km single-mode fiber (SMF) transmission. Moreover, the proposed upstream transmitter can be directly modulated at 1.25 and 2.5 Gb/s with nearly 0.5 and 1.1 dB power penalty, respectively, at the BER of 10−9.  相似文献

Pulse position modulation(PPM) is introduced downstream of the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA)-based single-fiber full-duplex bidirectional wavelength division multiplex passive optical network(WDM PON) to suppress the interference brought by the remodulation effect in the RSOA, Rayleigh backscattering,and reflection of the connection devices.In addition,because of the powerefficient characteristic of the PPM-encoded signals,the power budget shows clear improvement.As the experimental tests indicate,with~6 dB extinction ratio(ER) in the downstream signal,the receiving sensitivity of the PPM-encoded channel is~2.6 and~3 dB higher than that of the NRZ(Non-return to zero)-encoded channel in the downlink and uplink,respectively.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate an all-optical 10 Gb/s format conversion from non-return-to-zero (NRZ) on-off-keying (OOK) to return-to-zero (RZ)-OOK with tunable duty cycle in the whole C-band using nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) arising in an semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The experimental results show that, by tuning the polarizer at the SOA output, an RZ signal with tunable duty cycle from 33% to 66% could be obtained with an extinction ratio(ER) over 10 dB. In addition, we show that the NRZ-to-RZ conversion with duty cycle of 33-66% can be obtained with less than 1 dB power penalty at the bit error ratio (BER) of 10−9. The device can facilitate the cross-connection between optical transmission networks employing different modulation formats.  相似文献
