The elastic and thermodynamic properties of CsCl-type structure CaB6 under high pressure are investigated by first-principles calculations based on plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice parameters of CaB6 under zero pressure and zero temperature are in good agreement with the existing experimental data and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of the elastic constants, bulk modulus B (GPa), and its pressure derivative B′, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, elastic Debye temperature ΘB, Zener's anisotropy parameter A, Poisson ratios σ, and Kleinmann parameter ζ are also presented. An analysis for the calculated elastic constants has been made to reveal the mechanical stability of CaB6 up to 100 GPa. The thermodynamic properties of the CsCl-type structure CaB6 are predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relationship, the variations of the heat capacity CV, Debye temperature ΘD, and the thermal expansion α with pressure P and temperature T, as well as the Grüneisen parameters γ are obtained systematically in the ranges of 0-100 GPa and 0-2000 K.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of LuX (X = N, Bi and Sb) based on rare earth into phases, Rocksalt (B1) and CsCl (B2) have been investigated using full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) within density functional theory. Local density approximation (LDA) for exchange-correlation potential and local spin density approximation (LSDA) are employed. The structural parameters as lattice parameters a0, bulk modulus B, its pressure derivate B’ and cut-off energy (Ec) within LDA and LSDA are presented. The elastic constants were derived from the stress–strain relation at 0 K. The thermodynamic properties for LuX using the quasi-harmonic Debye model are studied. The temperature and pressure variation of volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacities, Debye temperature and Gibbs free energy at different pressures (0–50 GPa) and temperatures (0–1600 K) are predicted. The calculated results are in accordance with other data.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of thorium tetraboride (ThB4) have been investigated by using first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation. The behaviors of structural parameters under 0-70 GPa hydrostatic pressure are studied by means of Broyden, Fletcher, Goldfarb, and Shanno (BFGS) geometry optimization scheme. By using the stress-strain method, single crystal elastic constants are calculated to test the mechanical stability of the crystal structure and to determine mechanical properties such as bulk modulus at each pressure. However, in order to study the thermodynamic properties of ThB4, the quasi-harmonic Debye model is used. Then, the dependencies of bulk modulus, heat capacities, thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters and Debye temperatures on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range 0-70 GPa and temperature range 0-1500 K.  相似文献

We have investigated structural and elastic properties of PtN2 under high pressures using norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation (LDA) in the frame of density-functional theory. Calculated results of PtN2 are in agreement with experimental and available theoretical values. The a/a0, V/V0, ductility/brittleness, elastic constants Cij, shear modulus C′, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio σ and anisotropy factor A as a function of applied pressure are presented. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, we also study thermodynamic properties of PtN2. The thermal expansion versus temperature and pressure, thermodynamic parameters X (X=Debye temperature or specific heat) with varying pressure P, and heat capacity of PtN2 at various pressures and temperatures are estimated.  相似文献

The elastic, phonon and thermodynamic properties of the divalent alkaline-earth hexaboride SrB6 are investigated by using plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated structure parameters and bulk modulus are well consistent with the available experiment and theoretical data. The pressure dependences of elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B0, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E and Poisson's ratio σ are also presented. With these elastic parameters, we investigate the mechanical stability and compressibility of SrB6. For the thermodynamic properties, both phonon and quasi-harmonic Debye model methods are adopted. Through the comparison with experimental and other theoretical results, we found the method of quasi-harmonic Debye model is a little better. Moreover, the phonon dispersion relations are also obtained. It is found that there are two LO/TO splitting around 5 THz and 26 THz, respectively.  相似文献

The structural parameters, elastic constants, thermodynamic properties of Imm2-BN under high pressure were calculated via the density functional theory in combination with quasi-harmonic Debye approach. The results showed that the pressure has the significant effect on the equilibrium lattice parameters, elastic and thermodynamic properties of Imm2-BN. The obtained ground state structural parameters are in good agreement with previous theoretical results. The elastic constants, elastic modulus, and elastic anisotropy were determined in the pressure range of 0–90?GPa. Furthermore, by analyzing the B/G ratio, the brittle/ductile behavior under high pressure is evaluated and the elastic anisotropy of the Imm2-BN up to 90?GPa is studied in detail. Moreover, the pressure and temperature dependence of thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity, Debye temperature, and Grüneisen parameter are predicted in a wide pressure (0–90?GPa) and temperature (0–1600?K) ranges. The obtained results are expected to provide helpful guidance for the future synthesis and application of Imm2-BN.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of the crystal structure and the elastic properties of RuB2 have been carried out with the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated values are in very good agreement with experimental data as well as with some of the existing model calculations. The elastic constants cij, the aggregate elastic moduli (B, G, E), Poisson's ratio, and the elastic anisotropy with pressure have been investigated. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model considering the phonon effects, the isothermal bulk modulus, the thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters, and Debye temperatures depending on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range from 0 to 60 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1100 K as well as compared to available data.  相似文献

We investigate the structural and elastic properties of hexagonal Ce2O3 under pressure using LDA+U scheme in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). The obtained lattice constants and bulk modulus agree well with the available experimental and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of normalized lattice parameters a/a 0 and c/c 0, ratio c/a, and normalized primitive volume V/V 0 of Ce2O3 are obtained. Moreover, the pressure dependences of elastic properties and three anisotropies of elastic waves of Ce2O3 are investigated for the first time. We find that the negative value of C 44 is indicative of the structural instability of the hexagonal structure Ce2O3 at zero temperature and 30 GPa. Finally, the density of states (DOS) of Ce2O3 under pressure is investigated.  相似文献

The elastic and electronic structure properties of YNi2B2C under pressure are investigated by performing the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA) correction scheme in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). The pressure dependences of the normalized lattice parameters a/a0 and c/c0, the ratio c/a, and the normalized primitive volume V/V0 of YNi2B2C are also obtained. The lattice constants and bulk modulus obtained are in agreement with the available experimental and other theoretical data. We have also studied the pressure dependences of elastic properties. It is found that, as pressure increases, the elastic constants C11, C33, C66, C12, and C13 increase, the variation of elastic constant C44 is not obvious. Moreover, our compressional and shear wave velocities VL=6.99 km/s and VS=3.67 km/s as well as the Debye temperature Θ=549.7 K at 0 GPa compare favorably with the available experimental data. The pressure dependences of band structures, energy gap and density of states are also investigated.  相似文献

The transition phase of PtN from zincblende (ZB) structure to rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by ab initio plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method, and the thermodynamic properties of the ZB and RS structures under high pressure and temperature are obtained through the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The transition phase from the ZB structure to the RS structure occurs at the pressure of 18.2 GPa, which agrees well with other calculated values. Moreover, the dependences of the relative volume V/V0 on the pressure P, the Debye temperature Θ and heat capacity CV on the pressure P, together with the heat capacity CV on the temperature T are also successfully obtained.  相似文献

The structural and thermodynamic properties of MgZn2 Laves phase under hydrostatic pressure have been investigated by using a first-principles method based on the density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation. The calculated equilibrium structural parameters are consistent with the previous experimental and theoretical data. Especially, we study the pressure dependence of the elastic constants, polycrystalline elastic moduli, Poisson’s ratio, elastic anisotropy, and theoretical Vickers hardness of MgZn2. It is found that the pressure plays a significant role in the elastic properties of MgZn2 due to the variations of inter-atomic distance. In addition, the density of states and Mulliken analysis are performed to reveal the bonding characteristics of MgZn2. It is observed that the total density of states exhibits a certain offset with the increase of external pressure. Finally, the dependences of thermodynamic properties on pressure and temperature of MgZn2 Laves phase have been also successfully predicted and analyzed within the quasi-harmonic Debye model for the first time.  相似文献

We investigate the structural and elastic properties of LaTiO3 by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The lattice constants, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative are obtained. These properties in the equilibrium phase are well consistent with the available experimental data. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants, ductility, mechanical stabilities, sound velocity and Debye temperatures are investigated for the first time. From the ratio G/B, we conclude that LaTiO3 is ductile at 0 GPa and becomes more ductile at high pressure. In addition, the anisotropy factors for every symmetry plane and axis as well as linear bulk modulus at diverse pressures have been obtained.  相似文献

The mechanical stability, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of the anti-perovskite superconductors MNNi 3(M=Zn,Mg,Al) are investigated by means of the first-principles calculations. The calculated structural parameters and elastic properties of MNNi 3 are in good agreement with the experimental and the other theoretical results. From the elastic constants under high pressure,we predict that ZnNNi 3,MgNNi 3,and AlNNi 3 are not stable at the pressures above 61.2 GPa,113.3 GPa,and 122.4 GPa,respectively.By employing the Debye model, the thermodynamic properties, such as the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient, under pressures and at finite temperatures are also obtained successfully.  相似文献

The structural and lattice dynamical properties of TmX (X=As, P) compounds were investigated using normconserving pseudopotentials within the generalized gradient approximation correction (GGA) of Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE) in the framework of density functional theory (DFT). The structural parameters (a0, B, B′, Ecoh) were determined through total energy and interatomic force minimization and the overall agreement was found to be good. The pressure dependence of the ratios of normalized lattice parameters a/a0, normalized volume V/V0, bulk modulus, elastic constants, Zener anisotropy factor, Poisson's ratio, Young's modulus, shear modulus, and the brittleness were presented and discussed. The thermodynamical properties such as thermal expansion, heat capacity, Debye temperature, and Grüneisen parameter were calculated employing the quasi-harmonic Debye model at different temperatures (0–1000 K) and pressures (0–30 GPa). The phonon dispersion curves and corresponding density of states (DOS) of TmX (X=As, P) were also obtained, and the salient results were interpreted.  相似文献

The structural, phase stabilities, mechanical, electronic and thermodynamic properties of intermetallic phases in Zr–Sn system are investigated by using first-principles method. The equilibrium lattice constants, enthalpy of formation (ΔHform) and elastic constants are obtained and compared with available experimental and theoretical data. The configuration of Zr4Sn is measured with reasonable precision. The ΔHform of five hypothetical structures are obtained in order to find possible metastable phase for Zr–Sn system. The mechanical properties, including bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio, are calculated by Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation and the Zr5Sn4 and Zr5Sn3 show excellent mechanical properties. The electronic density of states for Zr5Sn4, Zr5Sn3 and cP8-Zr3Sn are calculated to further investigate the stability of intermetallic compounds. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, the Debye temperature, heat capacity and thermal expansion coefficient under temperature of 0–300 K and pressure of 0–50 GPa for Zr5Sn3 and Zr5Sn4 are deeply investigated.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, and electronic properties of SrZrN2 under pressure up to 100?GPa have been carried out with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters at 0?GPa and 0?K by using the GGA-PW91-ultrasoft method are in good agreement with the available experimental data and other previous theoretical calculations. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants and the elastic-dependent properties of SrZrN2, such as bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Debye temperature Θ, shear and longitudinal wave velocity VS and VL, are also successfully obtained. It is found that all elastic constants increase monotonically with pressure. When the pressure increases up to 140?GPa, the obtained elastic constants do not satisfy the mechanical stability criteria and a phase transition might has occurred. Moreover, the anisotropy of the directional-dependent Young's modulus and the linear compressibility under different pressures are analysed for the first time. Finally, the pressure dependence of the total and partial densities of states and the bonding property of SrZrN2 are also investigated.  相似文献

The structural stability and mechanical properties of WC in WC-, MoC- and NaCl-type structures under high pressure are investigated systematically by first-principles calculations. The calculated equilibrium lattice constants at zero pressure agree well with available experimental and theoretical results. The formation enthalpy indicates that the most stable WC is in WC-type, then MoC-type finally NaCl-type. By the elastic stability criteria, it is predicted that the three structures are all mechanically stable. The elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young?s modulus E and Poisson?s ratio ν of the three structures are studied in the pressure range from 0 to 100 GPa. Furthermore, by analyzing the B/G ratio, the brittle/ductile behavior under high pressure is assessed. Moreover, the elastic anisotropy of the three structures up to 100 GPa is also discussed in detail.  相似文献
