Abstract: | The loss in a low-loss multimode optical fiber consists of Rayleigh scattering loss and microbending loss. These losses depend on the structural parameters of the fiber. On the other hand, the coupling optical power from optical source into fiber and connection loss of fibers also depend on the parameters. This paper considers the combination of light emitting diode as an optical source and a graded index fiber as a transmission line and discusses the optimum parameters that give the longest possible span length between an optical transmitter and receiver. |
