Abstract: | A method of calculating the linear and non-linear susceptibilities of classical systems with an arbitrary type of motion to a small harmonic force is developed. The correspondence with susceptibilities given by quantum theory is discussed. Two examples are studied quantitatively: the linear susceptibility of the Pullen-Edmonds model and the quadratic susceptibility of the Hénon-Heiles model. |
