| Abstract: | Dialkyl 4‐(dialkoxyphosphoryl)‐3‐oxobutanoates ( 1 ), upon yeast‐mediated bioreduction, afforded chiral dialkyl 4‐(dialkoxyphosphoryl)‐3‐hydroxybutanoates ( 2 ) in moderate to good yields and ee values. Significant improvement was reported for the preparation of dialkyl 4‐(dialkoxyphosphoryl)‐3‐oxobutanoates ( 1 ), the key substrates of this bioreductive conversion. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
