| Abstract: | A number of 3-nitro-2-X-1,8-naphthyridines (X = H,Cl,NH2,OEt) were successfully aminated into the corresponding 4-amino-3-nitro-2-X-naphthyridines, using liquid ammonia and potassium permanganate as reagents. 4-Amino-1,4-dihydro-3-nitro-2-X-1,8-naphthyridines are the actual species being oxidized by the potassium permanganate; their existence has been by 1H nmr spectroscopy. |
