The future of architectural acoustics research and testing in Australia

Abstract:The Architectural Acoustics research and testing facilities in Australia are reviewed. It is concluded that most of the facilities are not commercially viable and that the research being undertaken is on a very small scale and is being done in isolation. It is suggested that in order to make best use of facilities and instrumentation a more broadly based Environmental Acoustics Institute should be set up. The Institute should have at least six professional staff and should preferably be centred on existing acoustics facilities in either Melbourne or Sydney.
