Abstract:Summary The performance of HPLC pumps is determined by applying Hagen-Poiseuille's law. As restrictor a fused silica column is used. The pulsation height and frequency is measured via a pressure transducer. Fourier transformation of pulsation data permits the characterization of pump identity. The absolute calibration of HPLC detectors and the determination of their linear and dynamic range as well as the noise level can be achieved by a single measurement applying the exponential dilution flask. Wavelength accuracy of variable wavelength detectors can be determined by comparing spectral data of aromatic hydrocarbons from the literacture with those determined with the detectors.
