Abstract:The results from applying XPS and FT IR techniques to the ethyl cellulose (EC) before and after adsorbed by silver powder show that a bridge bond is formed between the 5 sp 3 empty hybrid orbit of silver and lone electron pair on oxygen in EC, which increases the O1 s binding energy and weakens the C-O bonds. As the results, the C-O bonds in EC are broken easily and C-H pieces are observed at first when the sample is heated. With the increase of temperature, the adsorption bond between oxygen and silver breaks and the C-O pieces are detected. This process is different from that of pure ethyl cellulose.
