CH stretch vibrations of adsorbed molecules studied by infrared spectroscopy; CH3O on Cu(100)

The first high-resolution CH stretch vibrations in submonolayers of molecules adsorbed on a single-crystalline surface have been obtained by infrared spectroscopy. Investigation of symmetric and asymmetric vibrational modes of CH₃O adsorbed on Cu(l00) shows that the molecules are tilted on the surface, that nearest-neighbour interactions are important and that the intrinsic peak widths are large.
