Abstract:In this paper, a general formula for calculating the complex strengths of secondary sources is derived from the minimization criterion of total acoustic power output when both of the primary and secondary sources are directional. Then specific properties of active sound attenuation are presented for some commonly used typical directional sources and the rule for distributing directional secondary sources is given.
