Summary The propagation of weak three-dimensional shock waves through an isotropic medium at rest is investigated. The shock strength may depend on the time and on the direction of propagation. Analytic solutions are given for the change of the flow quantities across the shock and for the distance of the shock from the centre. The application of the results is illustrated in an example.
