The second Painlevé equation in a problem concerning nonlinear effects near caustics

In a critical case we study the asymptotics (at large time) of a solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This solution arises in a series of problems when accounting for the nonlinear effects near caustics. The asymptotics is described in terms of the second Painlevé transcendent.
