An Analysis of Teratogenic Causes of the Malformation Found in Several Species of Fish

Six malformed species of fish have been collected and studied by the authors since 1977. The malformed species are: crucian (Carassius auratus), which has only one left ventral fin, the right one being missing; catfish (Parasilurus asotus), which has two dorsal fins, one being extra; bighead (Aristichthys nobilis), the rear part of whose body is abnormally shortened; Erythroculter mongolicus, the rear part of whose body is crooked; Erythrocu- lter ilishaeformis, whose sex gland is underdeveloped; and Plagiognathops microlepis, whose lateral line breaks off, malposes and branches.
