Abstract: | A novel nonlinear optical organic crystal, 4,5-bis(foroylsulfanyl)-1,3-dithiole-2-thione (BFDT), was prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared and Raman and X-ray powder diffraction spectroscopy, thermal analysis, specific heat, optical transmission and second harmonic generation determinations. It exhibits powder second harmonic efficiencies about 1.3 times that of urea. The transparent region is from 442 to 3200 nm. The BFDT doped PMMA composite films were fabricated by means of spin-coating. The third order nonlinear optical properties of the films were investigated by using the Z-scan technique at 532 nm with 20 ps. They exhibited very large self-defocusing effects and negligible nonlinear absorption. |
