Abstract: | Strontium zirconyl oxalate hexahydrate (SZO) is prepared and characterized by chemical analysis and IR spectral studies. Its thermal decomposition studies have been made using thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The decomposition has been found to proceed through three major steps (i) a three stage dehydration, (ii) decomposition of the oxalate and (iii) decomposition of carbonate to strontium zirconate. Carbon dioxide is found to be trapped in the solid during the decomposition of the oxalate. The identification of residues at various stages has been done by IR spectra and chemical analysis. |
