| Abstract: | Bromohydroxylated derivatives of chromone are obtained by addition of N-bromosuccinimide in dimethylsulfoxide. The configuration and conformation of these compounds are confirmed by NMR spectroscopy. Alkaline alcoholates react with these bromohydrins to give a ring contraction into 2-formyl-3-benzofuranone. |
