Abstract: | The effective shear and bulk moduli of an inhomogeneous medium consisting of isotropic components are calculated on the basis of the theory of random functions. The calculation is made in accordance with the Reuss model in the pair correlation approximation. It is shown that, generally speaking, the true elastic moduli are not equal to the arithmetic mean of the values found by Voigt and Reuss averaging without allowance for correlations. The equality holds only if the mean bulk K and shear moduli are in the ratio K/ =4/3.Moscow Institute of Electronic Engineering.
