Abstract:A general approach to the description of energy losses by a nonrelativistic electron moving near the interface between two media has been outlined. Described in the model approximation of permittivity have been particular cases of electron motion in a vacuum normal to the interface and along the interface at a nanometer distance from the boundary. For example, the rate of energy loss by the electron traveling in a vacuum at a distance of 0.5 nm from the interface is one to two orders of magnitude smaller than that for its motion in a metal or in a condensed organic medium. The general expressions derived are applicable to the description of the motion of electrons in nanosized objects.
