Abstract: | We have studied the resonant multiphoton ionization of hydrogen in a three-photon excitation, one-photon ionization scheme. Superimposed on the ionization process we find a dissociation mechanism which manifests itself in a strong H+ signal. The ratio of H+ to H+2 signals depends on the vibrational quantum number v' of the intermediate state and on the laser intensity. We present a simple model which qualitatively reflects this dependence. |
