High-resolution infrared absorption spectroscopy of jet-cooled molecular ions

Abstract:Rovibrational spectra of H3+, HN2+, and H3O+ generated in discharge jet-expansion have been studied using a difference-frequency infrared source. The rotational temperatures were determined to be 120 ± 20, 273 ± 20 and 150 ± 20 K for H3+, HN2+, and H3O+, respectively. Some dynamic phenomena of the jet-discharges are also discussed.
