Thermodynamic calculation of the melting point of aluminum

Abstract:The free energies of aluminum in the solid and liquid phases are calculated. The free energy in the solid state is determined in the quasiharmonic approximation. The radial distribution function of liquid aluminum is found by solving the Bogolyubov-Born-Green equation. The convergence of the series for finding the electrostatic energy of the liquid metal is discussed. The value obtained for the melting point agrees well with the experimental value.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No.12, pp.29–32, December, 1980.
