Abstract:The nature of the acid environment in the determination of molybdenum by atomic absorption spectrometry is shown to be of considerable importance. The most favourable conditions are provided by dilute hydrochloric acid and especially nitric acid. Sulphuric and phosphoric acids are not recommended because of their marked but opposite effects. The air-acetylene flame gives more reproducible results than the nitrous oxide-acetylene flame.
