The Theory of the Convectively unstable Random Ionization Waves

A linear theory of the fluctuations growth in the positive column of a glow discharge due to ionization wave weak convective instability is given. The spectrum of the fluctuations as function of the position along the axis of the column is calculated assuming localised, white noise source. The calculated results are in some cases in a good agreement with the experimental observations.
