Efficient conversion of bromofullerene to alkoxyfullerenes through either homolytic or heterolytic cleavage of C60-Br bond

Abstract:The bromine atom in a fullerene-mixed peroxide derivative is replaced by an alkoxyl group under visible light irradiation or in the presence of silver salt. Homolytic or heterolytic cleavage of the C60-Br bond is proposed to explain the mechanism. The presence of oxygen is also a key factor in the photolysis reaction.
