Abstract: | The polycarbonates prepared by phosgenation of bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)phenylmethane (BHPM) or bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)diphenylmethane (BHDM) were characterized by inherent viscosity measurements, infra-red spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The polycarbonate of BHDM showed a significantly higher glass transition temperature as well as polymer decomposition temperature than the BHPM polycarbonate. Several physical and thermal characteristics of these polymers were correlated with their chemical structure. |
