Reaction of Methyl Iodide-Mercuric Iodide with Phenothiazines

Reaction of phenothiazine with methyl iodide in the presence of mercuric iodide did not yield a product with a methyl group attached to the sulfur atom. Instead, a quaternary ammonium salt was obtained. This paper is intended to provide correct information with supporting evidence for this raction.
