Abstract: | The effect of pressure and heat treatment on the viscoelastic properties of polytetrafluoroethylene has been studied by the free torsional vibration method. It is shown that the deformation of PTFE produces an important change in the principal relaxation processes associated with the molecular mobility in the amorphous regions. On the basis of the measurements made it is concluded that the mechanical strength of the PTFE increases, which is in good agreement with the results of static tests. A conclusion is drawn concerning the molecular mechanism of the processes associated with the deformation of PTFE.Scientific-Research Institute of Plastics, Moscow.
