Abstract: | Summary The rheological properties of plastic propellent have been examined by means of a technique in which gas pressures are used to stress a plug of propellent pressed into a rigid tube. The technique provides a reasonable approximation to storage and acceleration conditions in full scale charges. Gas pressures in the range 138 KPa to 552 KPa at temperatures from –30 °C to +60 °C have been used. The results have been analysed using a simple non-linear approach and they are shown to superpose using the WLF equation for a glass transition temperature of –80 °C. The application of these superposed results to predict propellent behaviour is discussed.
