A note on a nonlinear eigenvalue problem

Abstract:Summary In this paper a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of negative eigenvalues for the problem-Deltau – lambdau=mgragr(x)¦u¦p–2u in OHgrpartOHgr=0 is given. Here OHgr subRn is supposed a smooth bounded domain, agr nequiv 0 a bounded nonnegative function, lambda isin (lambda1, lambda2), lambda1 and lambda1 being the first and the second eigenvalue of - Delta in OHgr with zero Dirichlet boundary data, pges2 and, if n ges 3, p < 2n¦(n–2).
