Absorption spectra and bond characteristics of Ni(II) aquoamino complexes

The spectra of five aquoamino complexes have been established by resolving the observed absorption spectra of solutions containing salts of Ni(II) and ammonia. These spectra have been used to deduce the parameters of the bonds on the assumption of octahedral symmetry. The antibonding and nepheloxet effects are found to be nonadditive and nonlinear; the behavior can be explained on the basis of the interaction between the central ion and the water molecules.
