Abstract: | Vapor-phase infrared characteristic frequencies of ketones and aldehydes have been studied. The CO stretching vibrations in vapor phase have higher frequencies than those in condensed phase. The shifts are about 20 cm−1 for ketones and about 10 cm−1 for aldehydes. Both ketone and aldehyde have an absorption band at the range 1300–1100 cm−1, although their intensities are very different. This band was assigned to the CC stretching vibration of C(CO)unit. |
