A new treatment of the growing wave problem in surface optics

We introduce a new method for determining the fields generated by the excitation of resonances in surface optics. Our approach, which we call the “pole cancellation” method, describes the growing waves generated in a much simple way than earlier treatments, and explicitly identifies the physically relevant quantities.
