Abstract:The temperature dependence of the effective mass in finite nuclei is investigated in the framework of the surface coupling model. The characteristics enhancement of this quantity at the Fermi energy is found to disappear at temperature values of the order of 4 MeV in 208Pb. As a consequence, the level-density parameter should decrease, in agreement with recent empirical data.
