Abstract: | It is shown that electrode catalysis of substitution reactions can operate even for systems with rather slow chemical steps and, furthermore, for those which are electrochemically irreversible. A procedure is described for synthesis of Fe(CO)(PPh3)(η5-C5H5)COCH3 from Fe(CO)2(η5-C5H5)CH3 and triphenylphosphine. A simplified mechanism for the catalytic chain, is given and discussed in terms of the structure of the reacting species. |
