A phenomenological study of light transmitted through oriented nylon fibers

Abstract:The polarization behaviour of light transmitted through a single layer of oriented parallel set of nylon fibers immersed in a neutral oil, has been experimentally investigated. A phenomenological theory based on the Mueller matrix algebra has been proposed. The mechanism of dipolar radiations from the polymeric fibers, has been explained with the help of the matrix formulation. Experimental results are in good agreement with the proposed theory.
