X-ray photoelectron investigation of the surface of diamond and graphite

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to investigate the surface functional groups of natural diamond and graphite. An analysis of the spectra of the core shells made it possible to establish the presence of hydroxyl (ether), carbonyl, and carboxyl-like groups.
