| Abstract: | A technique for calculating, in the diffusion approximation, energy distributions of multiply-charged ions with an arbitrary
number of charge states propagating through matter has been suggested. Examples of numerical solutions of kinetic equations
taking into account charge exchange between ions and matter are given. A compact solution for the special case of two charge
states has been found. The calculations are compared to experimental data.
