Abstract: | Evidence is presented that the Atiyah-Singer index theorem is effectively restored on the lattice for numerically accessible values of the lattice spacing (corresponding to β 4/g2 ⩾2.4). It is shown explicitly how topological lattice artifacts decouple from the long-distance fermionic physics. Evidence is presented that while the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry does receive contributions of a topological origin, these are not the only contributions. |
