Abstract: | The electric field gradient (EFG) and the asymmetry parameter due to transition-metal impurities Ti, Cr, Fe, Nb, Ta and W in a host metal V, have been calculated. The size effect contribution to EFG is estimated using the continuum theory of elasticity, and the valence-effect contribution is evaluated using the dielectric screening theory. It is found that the asymmetry parameter is zero in alloys with bcc structure and the valence-effect contribution dominates the size-effect contribution, which are novel features. |
