Abstract: | A critical comparison between various approaches to calculate collective excitations in heavy ion collisions is performed. The coherent surface excitation model, the adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock approximation, and the linear response theory are considered. The origins of the differences in the predictions of these three approaches are analyzed and discussed. |
