Metastable peaks of exponential shape

It is shown that a monotonically decreasing translational kinetic energy distribution predicted from the quasi-equilibrium theory for the unimolecular fragmentation (CH₂CO]⁺˙→CH₂]⁺˙ +CO) is reflected in an exponential shape for the metastable peak in contrast to the commonly observed Gaussian type profile.
