Abstract:The maximum entropy spectral analysis has been applied to the time domain signals obtained in a Fourier transform mass spectrometer. The method, employing at most a few hundred points from the digitized signals, is shown to produce mass spectra that are devoid of the sidelobes present in fast Fourier transformation and exhibit mass resolution that is superior to that obtained by the latter using several thousand data points.
