Abstract: | Benzene, compared to other supersonic jet-cooled molecules, including ring-substituted benzene derivatives, appears to show a general lack of vibrational cooling in seeded He or Ar supersonic expansions. The general extent of vibrational non-cooling suggests that He or Ar collisions may simply be relatively ineffective in cooling benzene. A number of other gases were also seeded into He-benzene expansions but the vibrational cooling of mode 6, which was monitored carefully, was not substantially improved. |
