Laser-Shock-Induced Stress Wave in Metal and Its Prospects of Applications
Abstract:Laser-shock-induced stress waves in metal were calculated and were measured by PVDF transducer. The effects of high-intensity strees waves on microst ructure, hardness and fatigue life of 2024T62 aluminum alloy were investigated. Laser-shock produces finer grains and increases the hardness as well as improves fatigue life. The fatigue life of laser-shocked specimens is 7.9 times longer than that of unshocked ones.
