Surface effects in metallic ferromagnetic films

A theoretical scheme is suggested which enables calculations of the electronic density in thin films of transition and rare earth metals with a special emphasis on the surface and interface properties like chemisoption, contact potentials, surface magnetization etc. The proposed formalism works, roughly speaking, on the Hartree-Fock level of accuracy, including some earlier papers of this type as a special case. The applicability of the method has been tested on Ni films and Ni-Fe alloys.
