Asymmetric positive solutions for a symmetric nonlinear problem in {\mathbb R}^N

Abstract:We study a symmetric semilinear elliptic problem in all and we prove existence of an asymmetric positive solution by using variational arguments. The corresponding problem in dimension N=2, which provides the motivation of this work, arises in Nonlinear Optics from the study of the behaviour of optical cylindrical waveguides.
